Before You Start... What's The Plan?
Before you know what you're wearing, you need to have a good idea of the kind of outfit you are going to be putting together. You will need to consider things like the type of event, what people will be there and whether you'll be inside the whole time or need to prepare for the weather outside.

Do you need to feel comfortable? Will there be clients there and you need to look professional? Will you need to have an outfit that can work in different temperatures? Will you be going out after work? Questions like these are ones you need to ask yourself and if you're still unsure of how to dress, a great idea is to opt for something smart-casual with layers that can adapt to different temperatures.

Step One: Pick One Thing You Know You Want To Wear
Start off your outfit with one thing that makes you feel good. It can be as simple or elaborate as you like depending on your personal style.

Step Two: Complete Your Base
Next you need to complete your base, this is the first step where you might run into a bit of trouble, but don't forget that you're still yet to add layers, shoes and accessories which can completely turn a look around if you're worried yours looks a bit plain.

Step Three: Add Your Layers
If the weather is pretty hot, you will probably skip this step, but most likely you will need an extra layer (or two) to complete your outfit and add some warmth.

You will need a layer that you can wear inside without getting too hot and also a layer that is suitable for the weather outside.

Waterfall Jacket £17.99 | Blazer £22.99

If you're going to need two layers to make this work, some combinations you could try are a biker jacket under a trench or duster coat, a denim jacket under a leather biker jacket or a thick shirt under pretty much anything. Just play around with your jackets and coats and see what works, you might be surprised.

Step Four: Choose Your Shoes
If you think shoes don't make much of a difference, then you're very wrong! Shoe's can indeed make or break an outfit. You'll of course still need to be practical and comfortable, but don't go sacrificing style for practicality!

Step Five: Accessorize
With accessories, you don't want to over-do it, but you also don't want to underestimate the effect good accessorizing can have on an outfit. Choose one accessory that makes a statement and work around that.

If it's a statement bag you've chosen, then keep your jewellery minimal, and if you’re opting for large or bold jewellery then choose to focus on one area or at least two far apart from each other. For example, you wouldn't wear statement earrings and a statement necklace, but you could wear statement earrings and a statement bracelet.

When it comes to belts which are meant to give you a waist or hold your trousers up, if your outfit is already fitted then there really isn't a need for a belt. Unnecessarily placed belts can really ruin a look.
